The Boys: Season 4 Episode 2 Recap

Shooting A-Train’s Fabricated Origin Story

Episode 2 begins with the shooting of a scene of A-Train’s origins. The scene portrays Reggie, a drug slinger in the hood, getting approached and offered a chance to change his life by Coach Brink. Everything is on point except A-Train’s acting. He criticizes how the scene is derailed from reality.

Hughie loses his cool in the ICU while watching his mother, who abandoned them years ago, use Vought products for his dad. She informs him that his dad gave her power of attorney, including medical decisions, and signed a DNR.

Butcher Breaks The Truth Of His Nearing Death

Butcher breaks the news of his limited time on earth to The Boys. By now MM has had enough of Butcher’s antics and thinks he’s a liability. He fires Butcher and kicks him out of the office.

Ryan’s Fabricated Origin Story

Back at Vought, the PR team pitches an origin story for Ryan. It portrays Ryan in his father’s shadow in a completely fabricated story. Ryan doesn’t seem to like it, but Homelander is rooting for it. Sister Sage instead suggests going with the “Chosen One” narrative and they settle on a solo debut by Ryan.

Recognizing Sister Sage’s Hand In The Hometeamer Killings

The Boys discuss the killing of the Hometeamer and arrive at the conclusion it had something to do with A-Train as the distance between the place of killing and the venue of the protest was too far for anyone else to cover. MM also highlights his suspicion of Sister Sage, who had recently been working with Homelander.

Ryan Rehearses His First Save

Ryan rehearses his first save with Koy, but it comes off as very forced and inauthentic. Homelander is disappointed and holds back his comments of dissatisfaction. He instead encourages Ryan to put his back into the act.

Surveillance At Truthcon

MM, Frenchie, and Kimiko run into Butcher at a Truthcon while on surveillance. They follow her into a show hosted by Splinter, who then calls on Firecracker for a speech.

After the speech, Sister Sage questions Firecracker and then calls her to the Deep’s Blue Sea room at 9:00 pm. Butcher suggests they nab her on the spot, but this creates a fight between him and MM, and MM ends up kicking him out once again.

A-Train Flips Sides

In the meantime, Hughie and Annie spy on A-Train to confront him about the Hometeamer’s murders, but they see him speaking with his family. Nathan tells his kids to stay away from his kids. Annie intends to attack him after they leave, but Hughie stops her, allowing him to escape. He later shows up at their office and gives them CCTV footage proving the Starlighters were innocent.

Ryan’s First Superhero Save

While Ryan makes his first superhero save, Homelander unexpectedly interjects and becomes a part of it. The situation pressurizes Ryan and he hurls the stuntman into the building, killing him.

The Mayhem In Deep’s Blue Sea Room

MM, Frenchie, and Kimiko arrive at the room beside the Deep’s Blue Sea room and find it empty. Just then, Sister Sage walks in with Splinter and Firecracker, catching the boys red-handed. Sage leaves Firecracker to handle the situation and escape. MM and Frenchie brawl with Splinter while Kimiko fights Firecracker. Ultimately, MM and Frenchie get outnumbered, but Butcher arrives to save the day and slays Splinter. After being outnumbered, Firecracker runs away.

The Guilt Of Killing Koy Sets In On Ryan

Later that night, Homelander sees Ryan crying and apologizes to Ryan about barging into his big moment but claims it will be good for his numbers. Ryan tells him that the reason he is upset is because he killed Koy. Homelander tries to manipulate him into believing he did nothing wrong but isn’t able to shake the guilt off Ryan.

The Starlighters Are Set Free With Evidence Provided By A-Train

The next day, the two Starlighters accused of murder are set free from prison after using the proof provided by A-Train. Butcher returns to The Boys and asks them for help to set one last thing in his life right, getting Ryan safe from Homelander.
