The Boys: Season 4 Episode 4 Review

The Boys‘ make huge strides and almost flip the table upside down with Season 4’s Episode 4. Sage’s plan gets executed like dominoes tripping over, pushing back hard against Starlight and almost neutralizing her political leverage. It also lets us in on Starlight’s dirty little secret. Butcher displays some bizarre new powers that he seems unaware of, and Annie, a character who is supposed to be the most virtuous of all, gets plunged all the way to the bottom. This episode has been one hell of a bloodbath, so without further ado, let’s dive into it!

The Starlight Teardown

Up until now, the show has portrayed Starlight as a sparkling virtuous girl, keeping her name clean. Sure, she has been in some dicey territories in the past, but this plunges her right into the depths of immorality. In an attempt to turn the crowd against Starlight, Firecracker hosts a show revealing some heinous things Starlight has done, and this time FireCracker isn’t even bluffing.

The aftermath of this will be interesting given the political standing of this show. How will the Starlighters react? How will her allies react? Will the show gaslight its viewers into believing her innocence? We have to hand one thing to the show, and that’s how well they’ve sat on the fence, keeping us waiting in anticipation of what follows next.

Butcher Has… Superpowers?

While inside the trailer, Frenchie gets spotted by Ezekiel, who then proceeds to bash him. Butcher rushes to save him but gets overpowered by Ezekiel. That’s when the little worm-like creature seems to save Butcher, leaving Ezekiel dead with a huge splat of blood all inside the trailer.

What is this mysterious creature, and what are its abilities? Episode 3 of The Boys Season 4 doesn’t reveal much about it as Butcher loses consciousness before it can emerge. This is a big twist in the story and it will be intriguing to see how The Boys will adapt. If we do get to see Butcher go head-to-head against Homelander you can expect a Superman Vs Batman-level fight. The worm could also be like in the anime Parasite, a super-abled extension of a person that fights to protect its host.

Is The Boys Just Trying To Be Gruesome?

In this episode, two scenes don’t contribute to the plot or major character development and are only there to make it look more gruesome. Homelander is in his peak psychotic behavior when he visits ‘his past’. For instance, the act of portraying a fun reunion with his ex-caretakers before brutally murdering them the way he was treated as a kid. His narcissistic tendencies are glaringly visible as he genuinely believes it’s fair to put them through exactly what he has been through. We received a diabolical performance from Antony Starr on that.

Sister Sage seems to develop some attitude problems when her brain grows too big. She finds the Deep unattractive when that happens. The solution? A lobotomy. Hope you kept your eyes open for that one. In our opinion, that doesn’t fit in with her character. She was doing just great as a sly advisor for Homelander and The Seven, and this new revelation just seems meaningless. It seems like a move purely made to make you feel the spiders crawling under your skin.

Is Hughie’s Dad A Supe?

Episode 3 of The Boys finds Hughie’s mother talking about pulling the plug on Hughie’s dad. This is something he absolutely cannot stand. That’s when he turns to The A-Train and calls for a favor. It almost looks as though Hughie didn’t shoot the V up his dad, but somehow his dad did receive the dose. For a moment, it looked like his dad was going to explode, but after a moment of seizures, his dad opened his eyes. Does Hughie’s dad recover? Is he a supe now? What does this mean for The Boys?

The Boys: Season 4 Episode 4 Ending Explained

The fourth season of The Boys has been a wild one with bombs being dropped at every point. That said, it seems like too much has changed, and the Boys are no longer the secret vigilantes on a mission to take down the world’s biggest conglomerate. It surely keeps you on the edge with new developments, but still lacks the original vibe when the group had to operate under tighter conditions. Right now, their cover seems to be completely blown, and they’re walking targets for almost everyone. Yet they seem to be doing just fine.

With that said, there’s no doubt the series is bringing in new additions to keep us on edge and wanting more. What do you think about episode 3 of season 4 of The Boys? Let us know down in the comments!
