Under Paris: Recap
Who is Sophia and what happened to her team in Under Paris?
Sophia and her team were a group of marine biologists researching sharks. Their research focused mainly on the Mako sharks. As their research comes close to bearing results, one of their study sharks, Lilith, attacks the team, leaving only two survivors.
Years later, Sophia gets a job at the local marine museum and tries to forget the tragedy. However, she is roped back in by Mika, an ocean conservationist at the organization SOS. Mika and her team find out that Lilith has lost her way and is stuck in the seine. Mika approaches Sophia, asking for help, but the latter is wary. She tries to warn Mika that Lilith is dangerous, but Mika is blinded by her desire to save the shark.
What Happens to Mika?
Mika rallies for support to save Lilith from the water police. She leads her supporters to the seine to prove Lilith is not dangerous. At the same time, the mayor tasks the water police, led by Adil, to capture Lilith and secure the upcoming triathlon. The mayor is not too keen to listen to Sophia and cancel the event.
By the time Sophia, Adil, and their team get to Mika, it is too late. Sophia realizes that Lilith has a baby and will do everything to protect it. Due to pathogenesis, Lilith has been mutating, making her the first of a new deadly species. She doesn’t just have one kid; there are hundreds of them in the seine. As such, Lilith and the sharks attack Mika, the police, and everyone who shows up. Most of Adil’s team barely survived. As for Mika, she is the first to be torn into pieces!
Do they save the city from the shark attacks in Under Paris?
After learning the reality of how dangerous Lilith and her baby sharks are, the team decides to strategically bomb the breeding grounds of the sharks. The plan is supposed to work while the triathlon simultaneously goes on.
Unfortunately, Sophia and her team do not manage to save the city from sharks. One of their members is killed before he can detonate the bomb. After the bomb goes off, the sharks are freed and end up heading straight for the triathlon participants. The local police start shooting at the sharks, triggering the war bomb shells long buried in the seine. The bombs go off, causing mass destruction and flooding in the city.
Under Paris: Ending Explained
It’s a norm to see a film ending on a positive note. However, Under Paris doesn’t feature Sophia and other heroes saving the day. Instead, everything goes wrong, and the mutated sharks get their way. In the carnage, shells destroy infrastructure and bridges, leading to massive flooding in Paris. Lilith and her children survive the Seine, where swimmers start feasting on locals.
In the end, we see how sharks will spread across the globe and erase humanity from the face of the earth by barring access to water bodies.
