In Episode 8 of Dreaming of a Freaking Fairytale, the kdrama continues to feature its rising action. Up until now, the kdrama has left us wondering about Moon Cha-min’s past and why he pushes Shin Jae-rim away. In this episode, we get answers as Moon Cha-min meets his mother after many years.

• Moon Cha-min feels relieved to learn that Shin Jae-rim is going back to her home and not to meet Baek Do-hong.
• Shin Jae-rim makes amends with her step-family, and the misunderstandings between them appear to be resolved.
• Shin Jae-rim meets Moon Cha-min’s mother, who tells her about his past.
• When Shin Jae-rim understands the reasoning behind Moon Cha-min’s actions, she warms up to him.
• Dr. Gu proposes to Kang Soo-jin, and she accepts.
• Shin Jae-rim takes Moon Cha-min to meet his mother.
• Moon Cha-min is understandably furious and upset with his mother, and Shin Jae-rim comforts him and reassures him.

The Episode Review

Positives

In Episode 8 of Dreaming of a Freaking Fairytale, we learn that Moon Cha-min has been lied to about his mother for years. Hurt by the woman he loved most as a child and brainwashed by his father, we learn why he has made it his mission to push women away.

In this episode, Moon Cha-min has to face his past demons. Shin Jae-rim also serves as a source of support for him. This plotline in particular pulls at your heartstrings, and you truly sympathize with Moon Cha-min’s character.

If the show excels at anything, it is balancing its lighthearted moments with serious themes. This episode is no exception, as the ratio between the two is absolutely perfect. The kdrama has entertained us with its humor and kept us on our toes with its twists, resulting in a light-hearted but meaningful watch.

Negatives

I’m concerned that the show is rushing the storyline of Moon Cha-min and Shin Jae-rim‘s relationship. The pace would have been much better if the show had more episodes or had started with the rising and falling action earlier on.

That being said, we have to wait and see where the show goes from here, as only one episode remains until the finale.
